Yangon, Myanmar, 15 December 2017 – Global Technology Group, the leading telecommunications service provider in Myanmar, introduced its International Gateway (IGW) services and its content platform service, La La Kyi, today – making the Group to be the first local-owned private IGW service provider and the leading OTT and TV platforms solutions for ASEAN market.

The rollout of Global Technology Group’s IGW services will provide secured cross-border connectivity through affordable networks for Myanmar business enterprises and high-quality internet connection with a reasonable price for Myanmar households – transforming content streaming and electronic communications between countries.

“Back in 2003, the price per 1Mbps was three hundred US dollars and today it’s eight US dollars per 1Mbps. With more and more IGW service providers in the market, the prices will be even lower in the next few years. This is the first time that licenses for IGW services has been awarded to the private sector. We are currently waiting for a final check and approval from the regulator, PTD (Posts and Telecommunications Department) to go into the commercial launch soon. This IGW service will be key contribution factor for the Myanmar Digital Economy,” said U Thein Than Toe, CEO of Global Technology Group.

The Group also announced that its IGW system will be connected to China and India as well as further investments in submarine cable will be carried out as part of its Phase II. Currently the IGW connectivity is a cross-border terrestrial connectivity between Myanmar and Thailand.

Additionally, as part of Global Technology Group’s plans to provide high quality video-on-demand services to Myanmar public, the Group has signed content delivery service partnerships with Silicon Valley-based Harmonic Inc., a leader in video delivery infrastructure and France-based Viacess-Orca, a global solutions provider of OTT and TV platforms.

The Group will be launching a video-on-demand content service platform called La La Kyi in 2018, under the name Global Innovations Media and it will serve as a convergence platform for Myanmar entertainment industry by introducing state of the art world class movie applications for Myanmar audience.
